Split Flow Technology*Furnace Improvements has developed a new approach to increase the capacity of fired heaters without increasing the process side pressure drop. “Split Flow” aims at improved utilization of thermal energy for process heating. This is achieved by splitting the process fluid into two parallel streams: Main Stream – The fluid in the first stream is heated predominantly by the radiant heat transfer mechanism. Split Stream – The fluid in the second stream is heated predominantly by the convective heat transfer mechanism. Once the fluids in both streams are heated over the entire temperature range, the streams are combined at the heater outlet.
