My name is Ashutosh Garg. I am the founder of Furnace Improvements. I came to USA in 1990 after working for 14 years in India on fired heaters.
In my first year in USA, I was given the task of fixing several heaters which were not performing up to the specifications. The heaters included a steam methane reformer, ethylene furnace, high temperature steam superheater to name a few. It took me some time to evaluate the existing heaters, check their performance and diagnose the problems. The challenge presented by the existing furnaces developed in to a passion for me. I found out that no heater company was taking care of the existing heaters. Most of the heater vendors were and still are focused on selling new heaters to the owner companies. I saw a big need for helping owners operate their furnaces correctly and get the full performance out of these furnaces.
Furnace Improvements was started in March 1996 in Sugar Land, TX. I initially carried out troubleshooting studies fro the refineries and later started offering courses to engineers and operators. After 6 years, Citgo gave us a chance to improve the efficiency of their reforming furnace. We improved the efficiency of the furnace by 21% . Once that furnace was successfully commissioned, we started getting projects from other refineries. Citgo recently placed order for a complete turnkey supply of a 40 MMBtu/hr refinery fired heater which has been delivered. Today, our client list includes Citgo, Conoco Phillips, Valero, Premcor, Frontier and a number of other refineries. We have completed more than 260 projects in the last 10 years.
Furnace Improvements has developed in to a full service engineering company dedicated to improving the performance of existing fired heaters and refinery furnaces.
